Early Dutch Frames
  • 14;15 Hamilton  -  4 runner frame
  • 15;30 Brighton  -  2 runner frame
  • 15;45 Hamilton  -  2 runner frame
  • 16;45 Hamilton  -  4 runner frame

*** Please note the 16;45 market has drifted and the 4 runner Dutch Frame is a now a No Bet. You should cancel out the early bet even at a small loss. Currently the increased 5 runner frame is on if the market forms a clear price gap. I will update this near to ATO.
****The 5 runner Frame is alive bet now  - 5 mins to the off. Return @ 58 - 60.

Update @ 17;30

Have to apologize. I thought I had uploaded the evening update, but got home later to discover I'd bungled it.
There have been far too many days in June when it would have been better if I'd note done the upload! Glad to get the month behind me, at least there were no losses on the last day.

Posts like yesterdays may make the situation look complex / untidy?
I am just doing individual race notes occasionally to indicate the back up I use myself for early placed bets.

Early Bets are generally ok set & forget.
If its not possible to match the return I have taken before posting - try a bit of Targeting within the Dutch Frame, break even the longest priced, etc. between 70 -80% of these races are broad brush taken by the first three in the market.
Better still on dutch frames >3 runner get onto the favHedge type bet, it pays dividend long term.

If the bets are not taken early you will find a fair proportion of the selected races have changed due to tightening markets on favorites. In these cases you have lost the advantage of the larger dutch frame Early & trade off with a higher return on the smaller frame.

These bets still have to meet the filter requirements. In general if the return remains within the zone on the Book Value chart I posted they will. There are exceptions and I intend to outline the way Shape of the Market filters kick in later. No Movie (or unsupported mass marketing cons) involved.

Placing the bets early has advantages stretching the best Dutch Frame available and avoiding reduced returns as favorites markets tighten, but there are obvious trade offs involved.

  • Later withdrawn horses.
  • Late gambles occasionally switching horses at the bottom of the frame.
  • Late dramatic changes in going, etc.

It is best to check and deal with any issues if stakes are substantial. I usually have two platforms for Dutching running and use Geek on a separate machine to adjust any price matches, trade out, etc. I like the Geek tool its quick and has good In_Play interface (and its as near as free on term licence)

No notes today as I am on the road, so straight uploads  @ 14;00 & 17;30

Early Bets

2 no: Early Dutch Frames

  • The 14;00 will be a live 3 runner frame if the price Gap increases to 2pts+ with the 4th in market. I would be right on the off accepting this. So on the off this tight 4 runner race doesn't have the Price Gap & is a clear no bet for me, even if its irritating on the right result playing out.
  • 15;05 & 15;20 are also possible ATO bets for me if the market shakes out.
  • The 15;05 market tightens to a 4 runner frame before the off from the 5 runner Early frame posted. This time though its a NO bet on the Shape of Market filters.

Update @ 17;30 for evening meets

Note*** 17;50 Kilbegan
Cancelled bet - 1 click using Geek chart on 5.52 dutch return figure  -  due to Dutch Frame Price Gap change and market move towards Time for Mabel.
It was short lived - Before the off the market settled down and I reinstated the bet. Messy but right thing to do.

Note***" 19;55 Kilbegan
Should have been another race I pulled out of. But Andy Holden on William had napped the fav. Akorakor so I let it ride -he's the Irish expert - and I am lacking discipline!

Shame about the interruption and red ink in the 15;40 Chepstow but still got a small profit on the day. Chepstow's never been top of the hit list for me!!

I leave the record as the posted early bets, win or lose, hope the notes on particular races shed some light on how I actually operate. Keep that cumulative strike rate in mind and manage the losses side of the equation?

Early Bets

5 no: Early Dutch Frames
  • 14;10 Pontefract   -   5 runner frame
  • 14;15 Gowran       -   2 runner frame
  • 14;45 Gowran       -   5 runner frame
  • 15;20 Worcester   -   3 runner frame
  • 15;40 Pontefract   -  3 runner frame

Please Note***
The 15;20 race has moved to a NO bet situation
I am going to cancel out my bet and you should do the same - if the Price Gap to the backed 4th in the market remains below 2pts. If moves back > 2pts leave the bet alone.
Don't just let it ride.
Losing less is the foundation of for any successful gambling plan!

close to the off the move on Storm Lantern has dried up and hasn't disturbed the Dutch Frame. Bet remains Live, but winning fav. is dogged right to the line by a complete outsider!

Here is my ATO bet Return at the start of the day.
Net P/L is > £20k but look to the red negative figure on losing frames.
I have lost £53,352 since January 1st!!!

If you are in doubt about any Dutch bet after placing early CANCEL OUT. You can usually Green up or take a very small loss. More difficult is to green up after the start.
At a 90%+ strike rate anything done to manage that loss figure is a highly sensible decision bias.
Don't just sit and prey if the tactics are wrong. Its the wrong strategy after further information has flowed into the market near the off.
Managing losses is always a correct consideration.

Royal Ascot Summary

Royal Ascot

Results Summary:

There was only one Live bet taken on the main early Bets over Ascot. But the side bets covering the Group races give us another 9no: winning Dutch Frames to stay involved with the top clas races.
How well you did over the nine races is down to your opinions on which runners to Target within each Dutch Frame. My own opinions were shot down yesterday as I was chasing the fav. Telescope who ran below expectations - but I did ok over the nine races.

This year there was actual only one Group race were the standard method Dutch Frame failed. Fortunately it was excluded using the 21yr.race trend figures.

Also ended the week with the standard Early bets at a year to date high P/L & my own ATO figures breaking through £20k. Relief after a tough few weeks.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday

Ok; Final day with both Group races selected.

Hardwicke Stakes is tight with Dutch Frame 4 runner return bouncing around the minimum 45. The 4 runner frame covers the whole 21 year trend up to the highest price winner at 14/1 2003. Dutch frame return is low but for my own bet I must Target the 106.9 return on the fav. Telescope. A horse  jockey combo to definitely be the right side of for a repeat victory.

Diamond Jubilee Stakes is a very different market . Their have been 2 no: 33/1 winners over the 21 yr trend  - but our 10 runner Dutch Frame would have captured the other 19. Which to target in this race, Tough, your call!

Please do the business for me Telescope (return improved to 115 as I struck the early bet) and with 10 pops at the other race, I would hope to complete Ascot week with a clean sheet?

Friday

Yesterday judging the Norfolk stakes a 2 runner target left me profitless on the race!  - but the 5 runner Dutch frame covered the winner ok. The other two races where a strong fav. win then a dual between fav/2nd fav. to the line.

Two qualifying races for friday.
The King Edward has a single 66/1 outlier  result over the 21 year record, but no other winner higher than 12/1 which was Eagle Top last year.

Thursday

Pushing the boat out today playing around with 3 off the Ascot card.
On my numbers the Norfolk Stakes certainly  looks between the top 2 in mkt. So shall probably target just the two.

Wednesday

Tuesday: the Dutch Frame in each race captured the winner. But in the Kings Stand Medician Man was 2nd @ 114.0 by a nostril.

Wednesday: again just the one race matching the basic criteria 16;20 Prince of Wales stakes with a 7 runner Dutch Frame.
Returns as per the screen shot - 2 runners out of the dutch frame.
So this is the one I will play today.
Yesterday I managed to have the first 3 from 4 targeted in the dutch, today its a difficult task narrowing down the top 5?

Tuesday
Not great encouragement from the Target Bets. Mondays Target fav. Jalingo somehow managed to roll over in the last 50yds. and lose by a neck against a horse it was supposedly 23lbs in at the weights with, after trading at 1.1  Sometimes you wonder just how horse and jockey conspire to do the opposite of the obvious!

First day of Royal Ascot there's just the one Group race meets the criteria.

We have the 21 yr trend for Ascot and the one race covering 90%+ of the winning prices over the 21 yr is the 15;05 Coventry stakes. Highest price winner was 20/1 and a 9 runner Dutch Frame covers this years race up to 32.0 So this is the one for me.
Targeting the fav. only returns @ 155 with the next 8 runners break-even. Target top 3 in market returns @ 83 & Target the 5 runners below 12.0 @ 61 return.
I think its a more open race than just the fav. so I will probably spread the target to my 4 selected runners from the frame.

The 14;30 Queen Anne stakes is probably ok as with only 8 runners this year it could never get to the 90% cover. But the way my luck is at the moment I'll just stick to the one involvement Tueday!

The 15;40 Gp1 Sprint I've probably overounded some prices too much to Betfair decimal prices. But its a wild event, even if Sole Power is going for the treble of wins. I'll just watch the charge down the Ascot straight 5f. thanks.

Early Bets  Upload @ 13;30

I may split the afternoon into two uploads as I am around and there's 19 no: race selections to get through on a busy day. Here's the pre-list if you want to early check any.

Early Bets afternoon meets

  •  14;15 Gowran & 14;30 Ascot races are only eliminated because price gap to next n market is not there.
  • Some of these selected race markets may well tighten soon. Are they still bets at a smaller Dutch Frame? You can use the Book Value chart I posted to check - 80% of time this will be sufficient indicator without the Shape of market filters - if you want to persue any particular race.
Record I will keep as per the posted selections.

The 14;05 Redcar was an example of an early 4 runner market tightening down to a 3 runner frame near the off.
The return increases to @79 - which checks in the zone on the Book value chart.
The Price Gap is good revised 5 to 11.5
It also stays within the shape of market filters and it was a Live ATO bet at the reduced frame. Assuming you had taken the Early bet there's nothing to do accept the lower risk /lower return situation

  • Please note the Newmarket 14;10 race is a filtered  No Bet whatever changes

Todays Dutch Bets

I have had a couple of nasty emails over the weekend, rubbing it in over the downside recent weeks. Like I don't know already!

Just to be absolutely clear this blog is an opportunity to follow the methodology I use to hold together an edge long term in racing. From the blog you can pick up sections of the underlying stats, etc, use them for your own purposes if you wish.
It is not advisory, there are many hundreds of tipsters out there to dance around, if my Dutching systems are of no benefit to your own thoughts on taking a profit out of racing, move on.

I will be putting up a summary of the Group races for Royal Ascot this evening.
Which races I will dutch  for entertainment , which not.
Again if you need tips for Ascot they're queuing up to sell them to you.

Update for evening meets @ 17;30
Today 2 no: early Dutch frames.
  • I am also taking a Target Bet on the Fav. Jalingo in the 16;30 Sthw Maiden Hurdle, current return @ 130

Todays Dutch Bets

I'm taking an early Target Bet addition today in the Bev 17;00 Natural Nine.
At the moment liquidity is too low so I will strike the bet as soon as it ups, assuming the return stays above £100 (currently 128)
This is a 2 runner Dutch Frame, hopefully will turn over the current fav.

Upload for Early Dutch Frames

4 no: Early Dutch Frames

  • I eventually got matched on the Target bet down at 102 return - currently its as low as 87 Just too strong top of the market unless you are in early.

So 14;20 race a bit messed up with withdrawn runner-but remained a live bet.
Target Bet return drifted back up to £144 at the off with the 3rd in market backed down a fair way. So bit annoyed about going early at 102 and topped the bet up a little. (Would have gone further but listening in to WH radio and their useless tout emphasizing how strong he was for the favorite!  - Natural Nine did me proud. (also I think I may have miss scanned that earlier 87 figure? Thats a lot of market movement)
