Today's Pre-List and yesterdays results.
Another fairly quiet day yesterday - bu ticking along
Tomorrow I intend to go through the races live.
Today's pre-list, we have 13 to go at -out of which I have eliminated 2 for Early / Lite bets.
In the Goodwood Cup Grp2 race I am taking on the available 7 runner Dutch Frame Targeting Quest for More. Hes won at Gdwd and proved he gets the 2m. trip.
15yr. race trend is 10/1 max. winning price so 100% Dutch Frame cover on the numbers.
Target Bet return currently @ 350. Tough ask H'cp to Grp2; strictly entertainment bet.

Early Dutch Bets
Today's Pre-List and yesterdays results.
There were a few cross over results in yesterdays races.
Particularly in the 13;50 where the Early Bet was a 5 runner frame which reduced to a live 4 runner frame for the ATO bet which lost.
Conversely the 15;20 Bev race was an early bet which became a No Bet ATO.
I also shot myself in the foot by taking this race as a Target bet on the fav!

The combined Early + Lite Bets picked up all the available races yesterday.
The P/L deficit against the ATO summary is due to not applying the FavHedge bet on races above 3 runner Dutch Frame size.
Today I am taking the Target bet on Crombay in the 15;20 Bev sprint. A 4 runner Dutch frame with Price gap 11.0 - 17.0 which should hold up against the later market.

The Ascot King George obviously cut up eventually and wasn't really on as a live bet. Anyone committed early however would have picked up the winner even though the Dutch Frame reduced to 4 runners by the off.

Early Dutch Bets
Yesterday's summary and full results.
The afternoon was so messy with ground withdrawals, changes to Early Dutch Frames, etc, trying to note on each race - had enough and couldn't face live the evening cards!
There was a losing Dutch frame at Wexford which was picked up on the Lite Bet play as well as ATO. We saved a second loss with the eliminated Ascot maiden

Today I am going to put various notes up as to what is happening race by race.

- 13;50 Ascot; flagged up on race selection. But in any case eliminated on Shape of market filters. The Strike & the Uplift figures crash for the Grade 2 maidens admittedly off a relatively small sample size. Race doesn't meet ATO filters in any case. Ground changing at Ascot, I'm down there tomorrow really hope Golden Horn isn't ditched out of King George. So 5th in market wins, outside Dutch Frame well Swerved!
- 14;20 Ascot; ditto. I trust the Stats & the market, with all info factored in ATO, on first time out runners in maidens and take them on most occasions ATO. But 8 no: unraced 2yo's at Ascot mid season, Early Bet? No thanks!
- 14;30 Thirsk; moved to a Lite bet (check near off for frame size & Price Gap) Reason only 11k matched at time. This race has tightened up to a 5 runner Dutch Frame. So Lite Bet = No Bet. Also the 5 runner frame is filtered out ATO. No Bet. Result 6th in market goes in.
- 15;30 Ascot: meets Early bet requirements - ok
- Another withdrawal now down to 6 runners and No Bet. What a messy afternoon?
- 15;40 Thirsk; moved to a Lite bet. Reason only 14k matched at time.

One of those days to make hay whilst sun shines.
Off the 15 no: races pre-listed there were no losing Dutch Frames and 7 no: consecutive favs. took the afternoon races!
Again today only 1 no: additional Lite Bet. They will come more frequently over time.
I couldn't find a Target Bet for the day. But my ATO bets kicked thro' the 25k mark YTD. I just need to make the rehashed Early Bets match up.

Early Dutch Bets

Great day all round.
If we had backed every race off the pre-list there was one losing bet, but still in profit. The losing bet in the 19;35 Listed stakes at Naas was taken by the 4th runner in the market. Early on a 4 runner Dutch frame could be covered - but no Price Gap to the field. Closer to the off the available Dutch frame reduced to a 3 runner frame. ATO this wa below the filter criteria. If you scan the screen shots there is a column 'Frame Probability Ratio' This varies by race type, no of runners,etc. At 33% on the reduced 3 runner frame it is way below the requirement.
Again today only 1 no: additional Lite Bet.
Also Davids Beauty came in for me on the Target Bet addition.
Over the next week I intend to revisit each step of the method simple ABC (that'll be a change from me!)
The blog wont be returning to Live Early Bets every day. But i will cover minimum 4 days a week, usually better. When I'm out or travelling there's just too much disruption involved.
Anyone really digging into the available information will surely be able to cherry pick some races on the blank days developing their own controls?
I have a blog friend in Botswana! That's a new addition email me please. Do you have race tracks there? Nearest I have spent time is the Ascot track in Zimbabwe, home from home.

Early Dutch Bets
Today a there are only 3 no: race selections on the afternoon cards and useful to trial the revised format covering each of three options.

So this conveniently trials the three options
Until the 1 August the Lite Bet additions are not included into the P/L record.
Results:
14;00 Ffos - This filtered out race was won by a complete outsider at 91 BFsp!
14;45 Muss - we can see from the following screen shot it became a clear No Bet near the off time. Return below the min 45 required. First 2 in the market fought the finish out.
16;00 Ffos - we can see from the screen shot there was no change near to the off and this remained a clear 2 runner dutch frame with a Price Gap 2.4pts (3.1 last runner in Dutch frame - 5.5 next in market)
The race was fought out by the top two in the market from a long way out and the fav. just got his head in front near the line.

Producing 3 no: Early bets - match the Dutch Frame size & approx Return.
Additional 2 no: Lite bets to be checked near the off. Check the frame size remains and the Price Gap >=2pts. Or No Bet
On the final 20;50 race I will be adding a pretty speculative Target Bet on Baqqa currently returning @ 345.

If we had placed bets on all 10 pre-listed races there would have been a 343 loss.
The ATO filters removed 3 no: races with a 629 profit.
On the day the additional Lite Bets only added 1 no: win result and didn't go far to bridging the gap.
Sometimes it isn't possible to get a result without the final ATO check.
In the 17;50 Ballin race There was a No Bet on the Early listing. A potential 4 runner frame bet on the Lite listing. The eventual market tightened up offering a 3 runner frame only. This still cleared the ATO filters and was a win bet. The final screen shot shows the market ATO.

You will see on the spreadsheet a couple of changes which will hopefully start to reduce the deficit between the Early Bets and the full listed ATO bets.

So pretty well the same pattern as before with the Early Bets continuing to collect a high number of the losing bets.
To the right of the Selected races are a number tagged up Red - these have been filtered out with tighter restrictions on race selection.
Down to the Sunday shot you will see two additional bets coloured up Orange.
Basically I am splitting into two categories of Bets to follow.
Green 'Early Bets'. As before with a target price.
Orange 'Lite' Bets. To be added near the off if the frame size is unchanged & the price gap is >=2pts.
More details to follow. I am only taking the Green Early bets onto the record until 1st August

Early Dutch Bets
After a cluster of bad results over the weekend I have been reconsidering the Early Bet format.
The current situation is that they have performed badly against the results from the ATO bets and the deficit is increasing.
Contrary to what I expected the Early Bets year to date have taken 75% of both the losing bets/ Live bets total but delivered only just over 40% of the Profit.
This is actually completely the reverse of what I expected so I have to accept that the Early Bets plan is seriously flawed.
There are two main problems as I see the experiment over the six months trial

Contrary to what I expected the Early Bets year to date have taken 75% of both the losing bets/ Live bets total but delivered only just over 40% of the Profit.
This is actually completely the reverse of what I expected so I have to accept that the Early Bets plan is seriously flawed.
There are two main problems as I see the experiment over the six months trial
- Firstly the filters I use on live bets ATO simply do not function Early.
- Secondly the risks associated with placing bets early, late market moves, non-runners, dutch frame becoming unbackable near to the off, etc are having a pretty negative impact.
Gambling is a hard nosed business. If the results are inadequate its stupid to ignore the facts.
I am working on a simplified method for taking bets from the selected races without the Shape of Market filters I use. Identifying them early but also checking the situation is right near the off.
I am not going to post Early bets Live anymore whilst I trial this. I will just update results alongside the posting the full ATO results, weekly, monthly. Of course I am exposed doing this to publishing results after the event and no-one should rightly trust this in the racing game. But there are 6 months of posts on the blog Live now which demonstrate that there is a good basic edge using the methodology.
So as of Today the only bets I am going to post Live will be continuing (and increasing) the Target Bets on specified races.
Finally I am going to use the blog to try and provide a method you can follow towards eventually identifying correct ATO bets. I believe anyone working on a systematic approach to using the bets close to the off, and putting the effort in, can take 40k+ out of the Betfair market once staking is around the levels I post as standard and the bankroll discipline is intact.

No Dutch Frames off evening meets.

Todays Dutch Bets
Although there are 7 no: selected races off the afternoon cards - non qualify for a clear Dutch Frame currently. There are a bunch of competitive maidens with a lot (8 out of 10 runners in Nmkt 16;55) of first time out runners keeping the early markets guessing.
Of the 3 no: Group races at Newmarket the 15;15 Gp2 qualifies on the criteria I put up for following Group events. The 5 runner Dutch Frame gives 95% cover on the race specific trend. Make sure Price Gap is 1.5 or better later.
I particularly like Gospel Choir - my own Target bet + Mahsoob.
Bet configuration as per screen shot & don't rely on my advise within the Dutch Frame!

In the 14;20 Wolv the market is still crystalizing out.
I'm hoping it will be ok at ATO - 3 runner frame bet and I'm expecting to take fav. Encanter as an additional Target bet in the race.
